Halloween is the one night of the year a whole city goes looking for a room that has gone properly wrong.
Most of Goa answers that with a costume rail and a playlist. We are building the other thing: a hand-built six-scoop stack pushed to the weight it was made for, a bill of the country's heaviest jungle and dubstep selectors, and a cast of Butoh dancers and theatre artists suspended in the crowd for seven hours.
Five hundred people, one hard cap, and nowhere in the building to get away from the bass.

Booked for weight. Every name here plays the two things this room is built for: jungle at the front of the beat, dubstep with the bottom left in.
Bengaluru-based, and in the scene long before she was on the decks, designing for The Humming Tree, Krunk, 4NCY and Azadi Records since 2015. Played Boiler Room: Bengaluru on a fast, wild bass and breaks showcase. She builds sound and image at the same time, which is exactly what this room needs at its peak.

Pia ColladaKHXDEEJ is Goa-based by way of Surat, drawn to off-centre rhythms and dub-leaning, textured club music, and a regular on Rinse FM. Pia Collada is a Worldwide FM resident and founder of BASS WAV, the femme-forward platform, with Glastonbury, Shambala and Magnetic Fields behind her. Together they take the middle of the night.
Mumbai-based, and one of India's first female turntablist DJs. Raised in Dehradun, mentored by DJ Uri, and an old-school hand on the decks. Old and nu skool hip hop, grime, future beats and bass, cut hard and built for the floor. Boxout.fm, NH7 Weekender.

When the sound system lineup closes at 1 AM, it opens. Behind it is a room a fraction of the size of the main floor, some guests we have not named, and the last hour of the night.
Not everyone in the room gets in. We are not saying in advance who is playing or how you get down there. Both get announced closer to the night.

Most rooms in this state run a rig that has had the bottom taken out of it so nobody complains. This one is built the other way around.
A scoop is a folded horn, a cabinet built so the low end travels as pressure rather than noise. Six of them, hand-made, tuned by the people who made them. That is the difference between hearing a bassline and standing inside one, and it is why this bill said yes.

This is the part we are least willing to compromise on.
Butoh, or ankoku butō, is the post-war Japanese form built on white body paint, very slow contortion and a refusal to look human. Here it is performed at head height above a moving crowd, on rigging, in rotation across the night.
Trained scare-actors and physical theatre performers working inside the crowd rather than on a stage. They turn up at the edge of your vision, hold eye contact slightly too long, and are gone before anyone gets a photo. It is choreographed against the set times, so the room turns when the music turns.
The venue is built into the piece rather than decorated over. Lighting leaves most of the space genuinely dark, haze makes the rigging read, and there is one lit path in. People end up photographing the thing that just frightened them, which is the whole marketing plan.

Seven hours, built as one curve. Nothing peaks before 10 PM, and the last hour happens somewhere most of the room will not get into.
The stack ticking over on roots and steppers, the paint room open, light still going out of the sky. This is the friendliest the night ever gets.
The Butoh rotation starts and the first theatre artists enter the floor. Lighting drops to its night state. The room works out what it has walked into.
Tempo up, haze thick, figures at their lowest. From here on the stack does not come back down.
The sound system lineup closes and a door opens somewhere else in the building. Special guests, limited numbers, no announcement on the night.
Music off at 2 AM sharp, no encore, no negotiation. Everyone out into a Sunday morning wondering what that was.

The cap is a creative decision before it is a commercial one. At 500 the stack reaches everybody, the suspended cast can actually work the floor, and the night stays the thing we described.
Not a soft target. The door shuts at 500 and stays shut, which is also how the room stays safe with performers overhead.
A single flat ticket. No tiers, no tables, no list that gets you in cheaper than the person next to you.

Licensed security, medical on site all night, and a strict no-touch policy for every performer in the crowd. There is a lit way off the floor visible from anywhere in the room, and a steward will walk you out the moment you ask. Full safety and licensing documentation is available to partners and the venue on request.
